What is the AstroTwister Project?
AstroTwister is a solar system widget that runs on the Yahoo Widget Engine (formerly Konfabulator).
The AstroTwister widget project is based on my simple want to have the whole solar system revolving on my desktop, and it does exactly that in what I felt was the best way possible. Sweezing the whole solar system down into a tiny desktop widget was no easy task, and a few mathmatical changes had to be made in order for this widget to become a reality.
Things to note about this widget solar system:
- Planet size is not to scale (You can however tell which planet is bigger than the others)
- Planet orbits are round, not eliptical, and are not to scale
Using the widget:
- You must download and install Yahoo Widget Engine (currently version 4)
- The latest version of AstroTwister can often times only be found here.
- Slowing the planets down might be necessary to speed up older computers.
- Cool desktop backgrounds (star fields with galaxies) give animated desktop effect.
- Questions can be asked in the forums.
I hope you enjoy this project as much as I have enjoyed writing it for you. Although the solar system widget project, code named AstroTwisterTM, has matured quite nicely it is a one man project and changes will be made as I see fit.
